PARAGOULD, Ark. – The Owls baseball team grabbed a doubleheader victory to take the Crowley's Ridge College three-game series 18-5 and 12-10 on Saturday, April 21. With the series behind them, The W improves to 19-12 on the season and move one step closer to a bid in the USCAA Small College World Series.
Game One (W, 18-5)
The Owls grabbed an early lead with eight runs scored in the first inning. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own to put The W ahead 8-3.
In both the fourth and the third inning, both teams scored one run each to advance the Owls lead to 10-5.
The Owl replicated their first inning success in the sixth inning with another eight runs to secure a 18-5 win.
At the plate, freshman utility player Will Peters had the best offensive success. The Tallassee, Ala. native recorded four at-bats for three hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
Another standout player for the Owls was Prince Tolbert who had a 3-for-4 appearance with three runs and two RBIs.
On the mound, Drew Williams was credited with the pitching win. The freshman from Maylene, Ala. pitched the entire game for four strikeouts, five runs (four earned), and eight hits against.
Game Two (W, 12-10)
The Owls rode the success of the previous game for a great offense in game two. With the offensive momentum, The W hit the third inning ahead of the Pioneers 3-1.
In the bottom of the third, Crowley's Ridge answered the Owls advance with three runs of their own to jump ahead 4-3.
For the rest of the game, it was battle to the finish line with The W putting up three runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth while the Pioneers scored three runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and a final run in the seventh.
The Owls were able to outlast Crowley's Ridge for a 12-10 victory.
On the mound, Will Peters took the Owls victory with 5.1 innings pitched, two strikeouts, and nine earned runs.
Austin Sparks delivered the save with 1.2 innings pitched with one strike out, one earned run, and two hits against.
The Owls will travel to Tupelo, Miss. on Tuesday, April 24 to take on Blue Mountain College. The first pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
