Soccer Shows Better Defense and Offense in 1-0 Loss to Hendrix

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Owls weekend comeback foiled in a 1-0 loss to Hendrix College on Sunday, Sept. 10 on the Rhodes College Soccer Field.


The Mississippi University for Women's men's soccer team showed better offense than they had the previous day against Rhodes, playing more aggressively to for more scoring opportunities.


"Our men played with much better energy and focus in today's match," said head coach Tim Gould. "Defensively we were sound. We also did a better job getting forward into our attack which resulted in several promising scoring changes."


Jacob Johnson, freshman forward, led The W offense with two shots. Tazz Sparks, Nathan Wilson, and Courtland Moore also aided the Owls offense with one shot each to give The W five shots total.


John McGee, freshman goal keeper, led the Owls defense, playing 82:59 with 6 saves and one goal allowed. Selvin Lopez entered the match in the final minutes to collect two saves with no goals allowed to close the game.


"We showed improvement from Saturday," continued Gould. "I look forward to seeing the advancements we can make the rest of the week in training."


The Owls will have a week long rest before traveling to Jackson, Miss. to face Millsaps College on Sunday, Sept. 17. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
