MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Saturday, Sept. 15, the men's and women's cross country teams will be running at Shelby Farms Park in the Rhodes Invitational. The men's team will run an 8k, and the women will run a 6k.
"This course should be a fast course. We have been doing a lot of endurance workouts to prepare and I'm looking to great times for our first 6k and 8k of the year," Coach Morgan Turnipseed says looking ahead to the meet. This is the first time the guys have ran an 8k this year, and Coach Turnipseed says they have spent time focusing on the mental aspect for this course. "We've talked about the mental aspect of running the longer 8k. I feel they are prepared and will do great for this meet. I'm looking to see them focused and sticking to their pace they've been set to run for this race."
This is the cross country team's second meet of the season, but they have had two extra weeks to prepare for this race. "I believe the extra two weeks of training have built an even stronger foundation of endurance for this week. I also think having the first meet of the season out of the way will help them be more relaxed and ready as well."
The Rhodes Invitational starts at 8:30 for the men's 8k, and 9:15 for the women's 6k.
