Volleyball Goes 1-1 on First Day of Belhaven Tournament

JACKSON, Miss. –The Owls (1-5) split day one of the Belhaven Volleyball Tournament with a win against Rust College and a loss versus Centernary College - Louisiana.

The MUW volleyball team grabbed its first win of the season against Rust College on Friday, Sept. 9 in the opening game of the Belhaven Volleyball Tournament.

The Owls ended their losing streak with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) victory over the Bearcats.

"It's great to start our weekend off with a win," stated head coach Roxanne Hernandez. "We didn't serve quite as well this time as we have been in previous matches, but we kept the other team at bay with our offense. Our setters made good decisions and our energy stayed pretty high throughout all three sets. I am very proud of the girls for starting off this tournament strong.

The Owls were unable to ride momentum into the second game of the day, falling to 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 14-25) to Centenary College – Louisiana.

More information about lead scorers and lead defenders will be given when stats become available.

In day two of the tournament, the Owls will get a second crack at Centenary at 3 p.m. and then take on Belhaven directly after.
