COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women volleyball team will be back on the road this weekend in its last road trip of the 2017 season. The Owls will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to participate in the 2017 Blues City Invite hosted by Rhodes College on Friday, Oct. 27 – Saturday, Oct. 28. There, the Owls (5-17) will go up against Louisiana College, Rhodes College, and Fontbonne University.
So far this season, The W has played well defensively but has struggled with serve receives and getting into an offensive grove. With five games left in the season, the Owls are looking to end the season with wins in the double digit.
Kayla King, freshman outside hitter, still leads the Owls offensively with 99 kills on 339 total attacks. The Caledonia, Miss. native has played in 21 matches for 57 sets to tally 12 service aces, 8 assists, 58 digs, 1 block solo, and 7 block assist for 115.5 points.
Loren Schmitt, freshman utility player, leads the team defensively and is one of the Owls top performers offensively. Schmitt, a Mt. Juliet, Tenn. native, has played in all 21 matches for 65 sets. She has tallied 73 kills on 302 total attacks, 15 assists, 36 service aces, 127 digs, and five block assists for 111.5 points.
