CLINTON, Miss. – The Owls women's cross country team opened its inaugural season at the Mississippi College Season Opener on Friday, Sept. 1. The women's 4K race was hosted by Mississippi College at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.
"Today's meet had many challenges," said head coach Morgan Turnipseed. "Choctaw Trails is not an easy course. However, the ladies pushed through and finished with good times."
The Owls faced stiff competition with 12 other institutions competing: Southern Miss, Mississippi College, Blue Mountain, Delta State, Spring Hill, Mobile, Xavier-Louisiana, Millsaps, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Belhaven, and Tougaloo College.
The W worked hard and finished in 12th place with a total time of 2:08:03.70 and an average time of 25:36.74.
"They raced hard and are coming together as a team," continued Turnipseed. "That last steep hill to the finished showed their character."
Karigan Bonner emerged as the team leader with a time of 24:53.33.
The Owls women's cross country team will be back on the course on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they participate in the Rhodes Invitational at Shelby Farms. The starting gun is set to fire at 9:15 a.m.
