COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W baseball team will continue its season when it travels to DuBois, Penn. to participate in the United States College Athletic Association Small College World Series. The Owls, now 16-11 on the season, grabbed the second season bid ranking fifth nationally among USCAA institutions.
In a dynamic second season, the Owls played 27 games to maintain a .302 batting average, a .422 on-base percentage, and a .375 slugging percentage.
Owls baseball MVP Brandon Jones leads his team with a .403 batting average, 16 runs, and 19 RBIs. In 27 games, the sophomore infielder has racked up 77 at-bats, 16 runs, and 31 hits for 19 RBIs.
The W's former USCAA All-American, Damain Benefield is shy of .400 batting average with 19 runs, 7 doubles, and 25 RBIs. The sophomore infielder has played in 27 games for 73 at-bats, 19 runs, 29 hits) for 25 RBIs. As a hitter, he maintains a .397 batting average, a .515 on-base percentage, and a .616 slugging percentage.
The Owls will look to Ace pitcher RJ Dell on the mound. The junior right-hander posted five wins and a 3.9 ERA.
The Owls baseball team grabbed the fifth seed and will take on Wright State Lake Campus in the first round of the tournament.
Wright State Lake Campus will be making their fourth appearance at Small College World Series with an 18-10 record on the year. The Lakers are carried by seven batters hitting over .300, led by Stephen Hoedorf at .406, Noah Greathouse at .375 and Dustin Lewis at .365.
