COLUMBUS, Miss.--Tyler Temple, of Mize, is the 2019 -2020 MUW Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship recipient. The scholarship is awarded annually to a new, full-time student with a family member who is an alumna or alumnus of Mississippi University for Women.

Temple, who is double majoring in business and finance, is "looking forward to playing baseball, getting to know more people and just branching out and exploring my options for later in life."

The freshman chose The W because he found it was the best overall fit for his academic and baseball career. "I have an aunt who works at the Wesley Foundation. She encouraged me and also thought The W would be an excellent fit for me and would provide opportunities and experiences that would enhance my future and contribute to my personal success."

Following graduation, Temple's goal is to become a collegiate baseball coach. He plans on taking the management, leadership and organizational skills he will gain from his business studies and apply them toward a successful coaching program and sports career.

MUW Alumni Association President Kristi Mosely said the MUWAA is pleased to award the Legacy Scholarship to Temple.

"Tyler is an excellent student athlete focused on everything that matters most in college… academics, activities and achievement," Mosely said. "We are happy he's chosen to extend his family tradition by joining the Long Blue Line."

Recipients of the Legacy Scholarship complete an extensive application process that includes detailing academic achievements and extracurricular activities and providing a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or counselor. Applicants must also submit an essay about why they chose to attend The W.

The MUWAA exists to support and promote the mission of The W while providing alumni engagement opportunities. Any former student who has completed at least twelve (12) semester hours at the university and who has made an annual contribution to the MUW Foundation is an active member eligible to vote and hold office for the year.
