SELMA, Ala. – Tavonta Jones scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds but the 15th ranked Owls men’s basketball team came up short, falling 89-88 to Selma University in the Owls final game of the 2019 season
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Owls stretched past Champion Christian in a nail-biting road game on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in The Loren Mahoney Gymnasium. In a very intense game, The W went score for score with the Tigers but were able to outlast Champion Christian for a 72-63 road victory.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Owls men’s basketball team traveled to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Oakwood University on Saturday, Feb. 9. The W started the game strong but was unable to finish, falling 80-54 to the Ambassadors.
SUMTER, S.C. – After being down by 13 points, the Owls men’s basketball team rallied against Morris College to defeat the Hornets 85-82 Saturday afternoon. With the victory, The W improves to 6-15 on the season.
DENMARK, S.C. – Tavonta Jones scored 24 points and Keith Harris added 14, but it was not enough as the Owls men’s basketball team lost to Voorhees College 87-60 on Thursday in its first road game in over two weeks.
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women’s basketball team fell 75-71 in overtime to Belhaven University on Saturday, Jan. 26 in Emma ‘Ody’ Pohl Gymnasium. The W fought hard but was unable to outlast the Blazers to fall 5-14 on the season.
Tavonta Jones went 7-for-13 from the field and added two points at the free-throw line to lead the Owls in scoring. Owls senior DJ Clark added another double-double to his record with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Other W standouts include Keith Harris with 12 points and Tre Pinkston with 14.

SOMERSET, Ky. – Juniors Tavonta Jones and Tre Pinkston led the Owls men’s basketball team in its second victory over Campbellsville University – Somerset on Saturday afternoon. Jones grabbed 22 points while Pinkston scored 16 in the 91-78 win over the Tigers.
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men’s basketball team will open up the second half of the season at home with a match-up against Campbellsville University – Somerset on Thursday, Jan. 10. The W enters Thursday’s competition 1-12 while the Tigers will be hunting for their first win of the season with a 0-10 record.

WAXAHACHIE, Texas. – The Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions capitalized on a small 3-point halftime lead and held back the Owls in the second to defeat The W 74-53 in Waxahachie, Tex. during the first game of the Owls Texas swing.
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Freshman guard Quin Williams led the Owls for the first time this season with a season-high of 20 points against the Toppers. The Columbus, Miss. native shot 9-for-10 from the field, 1-for-1 in 3-point range, and 1-for-4 at the free-throw line to trail the game high by two points. New to the Owls starting line, Williams also contributed five boards and five steals in the effort.

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - After almost two weeks off from competition, the Owls men's basketball team returned to the court Thursday night against Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn. The W struggled offensively versus the Wildcats and was unable to pull ahead to fall 107-60
The W Athletic Department has named DJ Clark as December’s Renasant Athlete of the Month. The senior forward averages 12.3 points per game and 9.6 rebounds. Because of his effort, the Indianola, MS native was named USCAA Player of the Week during the second week of play.
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men’s basketball team could not get the offense going in its miss against Tougaloo College on Tuesday night. The W saw just 48 points in the 74-48 loss to fall to 1-6 on the season.

The senior forward scored 22 points to tie the game-high and brought down 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Despite the effort, the Owls were unable to stop Crusaders from scoring to fall 86-83 in their first game of the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – A buzzer beater layup by Southern University – New Orleans takes a late victory out of the grasp of the Owls men’s basketball team. After battling back to tie the game, The W fell 72-70 in the Health and Physical Education Building, also known as The Castle, on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Owls drop to 0-4 on the season.
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men’s basketball team played hard ball against NAIA opponent Wiley College on Sunday, Nov. 14. The W made several improvements like increasing its 3-point percentage and its field goal percentage but it was not enough to take down the Red River Conference No. 2 ranked Wildcats. The Owls fell 73-59 in Emma ‘Ody’ Pohl Gymnasium in Sunday’s competition.

In the midweek match-up, the Shaw, Miss. native hit 5 of 12 from the field with three 3-pointers while picking up all four of his foul shots.
