Sluggish Second Half Cost Owls in Game Against SUNO

COLUMBUS, Miss. – A sluggish second half cost the Owls in their match-up against Southern University – New Orleans. The W played hard but was unable to keep the momentum going to fall 70-50 to Knights Tuesday night.

Keith Harris went 7-for-16 from the field and 3-for-7 beyond the arc to lead the Owls with 17 points against SUNO. Harris, a junior guard, also picked up one assist, one block, and one steal in the effort.

Josh Skinner, a senior from Starkville, Miss., also had a good night offensively. He scored 13 points and picked up two rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.

With eight boards, DJ Clark lead the Owls in rebounds. The Indianola, Miss. native also collected eight points, two assists, and one steal.

As a team, the Owls shot 33.3 percent (20-60) from the field, 23.1 percent (6-26) in 3-point range, and 33.3 percent (4-12) at the free-throw line. SUNO shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-18) in 3-point range, and 73.3 percent (11-15) at the free-throw line.

"I was pleased with our effort tonight," said head coach Brian Merkel. "We could just never get into a rhythm offensively. I have to do a better job of putting our guys in position to score more efficiently."

The Owls will return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 11 when they travel to Blue Mountain College to take on the Toppers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
