Owls Fall 87-78 to Top NAIA Team

MARSHALL, Tex.  – In the final game before taking a break for the Christmas holiday, the Owls men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought match-up in Alumni Gymnasium as the No. 13 ranked Wiley College Wildcats outlasted The W, 87-78.

Tavonta Jones had a team-high 20 points shooting 8-for-20 from the field, 1-for-2 in 3-point range, and 5-for-7 at the line. The junior guard also lent two assist and three rebounds to the effort.

Keith Harris and DJ Clark did well in scoring with double-digit points. Harris, a junior guard from Starkville, Miss., put up 17 points with five assist and three boards while Clark gave 15 points with a game-high of nine rebounds and three assists.

The Owls shots landed much better than they did the previous night at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The W shot 39.7 percent from the field, 34.6 percent in 3-point range, and 79.2 at the free throw line.

The Wildcats shot 50.9 percent from the field, 29.2 percent in 3-point range, and 78.6 percent at the line.

The Owls will take 11 days off from competition before returning to the court on Saturday, Dec. 29. The W will travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on Belhaven College in the final game of 2018. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
