Men's Basketball Looks to Continue Streak Against Selma

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's basketball team hopes to continue its winning streak as it hosts Selma University Thursday at 7:30 p.m. inside Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium.

The Owls (3-12) is coming off back-to-back victories against Campbellsville University – Somerset with the latest triumph being Sunday at Somerset Christian School. The W scored a decisive 91-78 victory over its USCAA sister-institution for its first road win of the season.

DJ Clark, former USCAA Player of the Week and two-time Renasant Athlete of the Month, leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding this season averaging 12.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The Indianola, Miss. native ranks second on the team in assists and steals and leads in the team in blocks. Juniors Tavonta Jones and Keith Harris also average double-digit points per game with 11.1 and 10.0 respectively.

As a team, the Owls average 69.3 points per game while shooting 39.1 from the field, 28.9 percent in long-range, and 64.5 percent at the free-throw line. The W brings down 38.6 rebounds per game with 17.3 turnovers.

Selma enters Thursday's game with a 2-12 overall record. The Bulldogs won against Southern University – New Orleans before the holiday break 98-90. On the road, Selma is 0-10 with significant losses against Dillard University and Stillman College. As a team, the Bulldogs are scoring 71.7 points per game, hitting 46.6 percent from the field, and 34.0 percent in three-point range. Selma brings down 30.0 rebounds per game with 14.1 turnovers.

Individually, sophomore guard Keyshawn Baker leads the Bulldogs by averaging 15.5 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game. Junior forward Yurmon Barnes averages 15.1 points per game while sophomore center leads his team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
