HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Owls men's basketball team traveled to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Oakwood University on Saturday, Feb. 9. The W started the game strong but was unable to finish, falling 80-54 to the Ambassadors.
Junior guard Tavonta Jones once again led the Owls offense. The Meridian, Miss. native went 6-for-17 from the field including 1-for-4 in three-point range. He also picked up two free throws to lead The W with 15 points.
Senior forward DJ Clark tallied his ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Indianola, Miss. native also grabbed one block, one steal, and one assist during the effort.
Sophomore guard Shon Wright rounded out the double-digit scoring going 3-for-9 from the floor with one three-pointer and three free throws for 10 points. He also contributed five rebounds and two assists.
As a team, the Owls struggled to make shots, shooting just 27.3 percent from the field and 26.1 beyond the arc. They made 12-of-19 free throws for 63.2 percent accuracy.
Oakwood shot 44.3 percent from the field including 35.7 percent in three-point range. They did well at the line shooting 72.7 percent.
The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 12 when they travel to Champion Christian University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
