COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men's basketball team outpaced the Knights of Southern University - New Orleans to get its fourth victory of the season. Saturday evening, The W defeated SUNO 73-62 inside of Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium.
Senior forward Carlos Wilkerson led the offensive assault to collect 21 points for the Owls. He also performed well on defense to tally two blocks, five steals, and seven rebounds.
Keith Harris assisted Wilkerson in scoring with 12 points, while also adding a team-high eight rebounds with three steals. Tre Pinkston and Tavonta Jones recorded 10 points each to round out the double-digit scoring for the Owls.
As a team, The W shot 39.1 percent from the floor (27-of-69) and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-26). The Knights made 34.8 percent (24-of-69) of its field goals, including 17.4 percent (4-of-23) in three-point range. At the line, the Owls made 13-of-19 while SUNO hit 10-of-12.
The W outrebounded the Knights 49-43 and had fewer turnovers 19-23. The Owls scored 25 points off SUNOs miscues, 34 points in the paint, and 17 second-chance points. The Knights scored 18 points off The W turnovers, 40 points in the paint, and 10 second-chance points. Southern's bench was more productive with 21 points while the Owls bench put up 13.
The W will return to action on Tuesday, Jan 7. when the Owls host Rhodes College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
