Owls Finish Third in the USCAA National Golf Championship

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Owls men's golf team reached a high point during its inaugural season by placing third at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Golf Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The W shot 3-over-par in the last round on Tuesday to best 20 of the 23 fielded teams and finish the two-day event with a score of 590 (299-291,14-over).

Two of the starting five Owls ended the tournament in the top ten on the leaderboard. Junior Brandon Walker was named to the All-American First Team with a score of 144 (74-70) to tie for sixth place out of 114 competitors.

Freshman Brady Scola was named to the All-American Second Team with a score of 145 (73-72, 2-under) for an eighth place finish.

St. Mary of the Woods recorded a score of 569 (283-286, 7-under) to be named 2018 USCAA Golf Champions. SUNY Delhi edge out the Owls by seven strokes to take the second place finish, while Cleary University tied the Owls with 14-over to finish third.  

Two Owls also received honors for their academic achievements. Coleman Suber and Brandon Walker were both named to the 2018 USCAA All-Academic Team for maintaining a GPA greater than 3.5.

Even with the championship behind them, the 2018-19 golf season will continue for the Owls. The W will return to the course on Monday, Oct. 29 when they compete at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Fall Invitational.
