COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men's golf team traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss. this week to participate in its first competition of the spring season. In its first outing after placing third at the USCAA Championship Golf Tournament, The W came in at 11th place at the Carey Collegiate Classic.
As a team, the Owls shot 642 to outrank Millsaps College, Utica College, and Spring Hill College. The W posted seven strokes better than the Millsaps Majors and outpaced Utica and Spring Hill by 20.
Junior Brandon Walker was the Owls low scorer of the tournament with a team-best 156 (+12) in the two-round classic to place 41 overall. In the first day, the Vardaman, Miss. native put up a 79 (+7) effort and improved in day two with a 77 (+5) round.
With two 79 (+7) rounds, freshman Brady Scola finished second for the Owls and 48 overall.
The Owls will return to action on Monday, March 18 when they participate in the Centenary Hal Sutton Invitational at the Golf Club at Stone Bridge in Bossier City, La.
