ROME, Ga. – Freshman Zach Riley was the low scorer of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational for the men's golf team on Monday, Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Hernando, Miss. native fired two rounds of 5-over par to pace the Owls in the tournament hosted by Berry College.
Riley notched three birdies on the first day, all three on the back nine to enter the clubhouse tied for 49th. On the second day, he saw two birdies and several even-par holes to tie his first-day effort for 5-over par and an overall score of 154 to finish tied in 37th place.
The W was tied for 11th following the opening 18 holes at 21-over par, within 10 shots of the top five heading into the second round on Tuesday. On day two, the team saw some struggles finishing the round 36-over par for 14th place finish.
The course was set up a par-72, 6,758-yard event at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga. The field was comprised of 19 teams from mostly NCAA Division III programs.
Sophomore Brady Scola turned in two rounds of 70 (+7) to be the Owls second finisher. In his first round, he saw the Owls only eagle on hole 17 with one birdie and in the second round, he hit two birdies on the back nine. The Southaven, Miss. native finished 55th overall with an overall score of 158.
Senior Brandon Walker played 2-over his best round as a member of the Owls golf team, 2-over par in round one to be The W's first-day leader. Walker was not as successful in day two with a round of 85 (+13). He finished with a combined score of 159 and tied for 60th.
Junior Coleman Suber played a first round of 79 (+7) with two birdies and pulled in a second round of 83 (+11). He finished with a total score of 162 and tied for 72nd.
Mark Fumari hit for rounds of 91 and 96 to finish 99th.
