Owls Athletics Ranks 9th in USCAA Directors Cup Standings

NORFOLK, Va. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has revealed the first round of 2019-2020 Directors Cup standings. The standings consist of results from the 2019 USCAA Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, and Cross Country National Championships in addition to points for 2019 National Convention attendance and sports offering.

With 241 points, The W athletic program is ranked ninth in the standings. The Owls started the championship season by competing in the 2019 Golf National Championship. The W was led by Coleman Suber who scored two-over-par and helped his team to a fifth-place finish.

During the 2019 Fall Championship Selection show, the Owls women's soccer team was selected third and men's soccer team was selected sixth. Both teams competed well but each team's time in the tournament ended after two rounds with the women's team finishing fourth and the men's team finishing fifth.

The W men's cross country team also qualified to compete in the national championship meet. David Young led the Owls at the meet, running the 8k in 30:52.28 for a personal record in 20 mph winds. Jonathan Mathis, David Standifer, Josh Maughan, and Chase completed the 5-man team to push the Owls to a 12th place finish.

Representing The W's women's cross country team, Madeline Newman and Caroline Greer competed as individuals. Newman finished the 6k in 30:27.16 to beat the university's record by a tenth of a second.

The winter standings will be updated following the 2020 USCAA National Basketball Championships. The top 20 Director's Cup standings are linked below.
