HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Owls men's golf team finished 11th in the Carey Collegiate Classic hosted by William Carey University at Canebrake Country Club. A field of 14 teams played on the 6,891 yards, 72-par course in two rounds of 18 holes on Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10. With a 6-over par round and a 2-over par round, freshman Zach Riley was the low scorer for the Owls.
The Hernando, Miss. native had a tough first round with six bogeys and two double bogeys. He combated those missteps with one eagle and two birdies to finish the round 6-over par with a score of 78.
In the second round, Riley scored birdies on the fourth, seventh, and 18th hole which set him up to be the team leader. He had three tough holes back-to-back-to-back, with bogeys on the 15th-17th hole and an unfortunate double-bogey on the 13th. The Owls third man still competed well to finish round two with a score of 74 (+2) and 152 overall. He tied for 31st in the tournament.
Coming in second for The W, Coleman Suber and Brandon Walker tied for 42nd place. Suber had rounds of 76 (+4) and 79(+7) while Walker shot rounds of 77(+5) and 78(+6) for 11-over par and a total score of 155 each.
Other Owls Preston Trainor and Brady Scola finished 51st and 66th respectively with scores of 158 and 162.
