Memphis, Tenn. – The Owls men's soccer team prepared well for its match-up against Hendrix College on Friday, Sept. 14. The W put up a tremendous effort on the field and was rewarded with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors to improve its season record to 2-2-0.
The Owls gained a swift offensive advantage with two goals scored in the first half. Kyle Rodriguez, sophomore forward, scored his second goal of the season just 7:26 into the half with an assist fron Andres Martinez.
The W continued to ride the momentum of the first goal and at the 21-minute mark, the Owls pushed their lead by an additional goal. LaRico Lewis with an assist from Josh Martin scored his third goal of the season to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the Owls went scoreless but only allowed one goal for the Owls second victory of the season.
John McGee, sophomore keeper from Troy, Ill., was credited with the Owls victory. McGee played the first half of the game for one save and no goals allowed.
Jakob Williams took over keeper duties in the second half of the game. The Moorpark, Calif. native tallied three saves with one goal allowed to keep the Owls in the game.
The Owls will return to the field on Sunday, Sept. 15 when they take on Rhodes College. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
