Bernard Grabs First Half Goal in the 3-1 Loss at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Owls men's soccer team grabbed an early lead against the Gents of Centenary College, scoring the first goal of match. After half time, The W was unable to keep up the momentum going to allow three goals in the second. The Owls dropped the match 3-1 to the Gents on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Junior defender Andrew Bernard scored the lone goal for the Owls in Saturday's match-up. The Meridian, Miss. native skirted a pass around the Gent's goalkeeper off a free kick from Kyle Rodriguez and Jacob Thomas to land the goal with less than four minutes left in the first half.

Despite having only one goal in the outing, the Owls played hard against the NCAA DIII opponent. Josh Martin led the effort with three shots on goal while Cody Russel and Joshua Frankenstein was credit with two shots on goal each during the match.

Defensively, freshman goalkeeper John McGee guarded the Owls goal during the entire match. The Troy, Ill. native prevented five goals while allowing three.

The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Pensacola, Fla. to take on Pensacola Christian. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
