COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men's soccer team will host their first home game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 5 where they will take on Louisiana College at the Columbus Soccer Complex at 7 pm.
Recently, the Owls traveled to Talladega in hopes to bring home a win. On the field, both teams worked hard offensively and defensively. Due to such efforts, the match went into double overtime with a tie that could not be broken bringing the Owls record to 0-0-1 for the season. As this was the first game of the season, the W men's soccer team we able to gain valuable lessons to move forward into the season.
In the days prior, Head Coach Dylan Burnett has worked with the team to improve in their more difficult areas so they will dominant on the field.
Offensively, the Owls are led by Josh Martin, who scored the W's first goal against Talladega. Martin, a junior from Memphis, Tenn., recorded six shots for a .500 shot on goal percentage. Junior, Hunter Holdiness assisted Martin and recorded two shots and one shot on goal.
Louisiana College lost in their first match and are ready to compete. Jason Rodriguez has led the team with two shots this season.
The Owls and Wildcats have a tough game ahead of them, as each team is seeking their first win of the season.
Following Louisiana College, the Owls will be on the road for the weekend. On Friday, Sept. 6 the Owls will compete against Oakwood University and Saturday, Sept. 7 the Owls will wrap up at Welch College.
