HUNTSVILLE, Ala.– The Owls men's soccer team found a 1-1 draw at Oakwood University on Friday, Sept. 6. Despite a well-played second half by both teams, neither team was able to come out on top in the end as a tie was called at the end of regulation.
The Ambassadors and the Owls defense held strong in each half of the game. Goalkeepers and defenders kept the game tight throughout the entire match, making it difficult to score.
After 29 minutes of the first half, Oakwood scored the first goal leading 1-0.
Selvin Lopez, a junior keeper from Memphis, Tenn., guarded the goal for The W the entire match. Lopez allowed one goal with three saves.
Coach Burnett's Thoughts
"This was a game of two very different halves. We did not play our style in the first half and it was apparent. After a few adjustments, our guys completely dominated the match and it was a bit frustrating to not come away with the win. I feel our guys were very deserving of it today but that's how soccer can be at times. It was unfortunate that the opposing coach did not want to continue with OT. I think that it is so great to see our guys upset about not getting the chance to play OT when they just had a match last night, had to come from behind today to tie & still have a match tomorrow. That's the fight our team has and I absolutely love it! We are looking forward to our match tomorrow at Welch College!"
The Owls will travel to Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 7 to take on Welch College. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
