SPARTANSBURG, S.C. – The Owls softball team completed the four-game series sweep against Converse College on Wednesday, March 14. The W, now 12-8, defeated the Valkyries 4-2 and 6-1 in day two to go 4-0 in the match-up.

GAME THREE (4-2)

For the second time this week, junior pitcher Madison Scoggin pitched a complete game to grab her fifth win on the mound as a member of the Owls softball team. The Bay Springs, Miss. native pitched all seven innings for five strike outs, two runs (one earned), and five hits against.

At the plate, Kristen Martin led her team's offense with a 2-for-2 appearance with one run and one RBI, while Katlyn Duke, junior infielder, led the team in RBIs with two.

The game began slow for both teams with The W scoring the first runs of the game in the top of the third. Martin recorded an RBI with a single to center field to push Kandler Flora home and Duke singled to centerfield to allow Martin and Heidi Matthews to score.

The Valkyries made it to the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Owls lead to 3-2.

With a double to left center by Flora in the top of the sixth, Brianna Duquette scored the fourth and final run of the game to extend the lead and secure the win for the Owls 4-2.

The Owls defense held strong and prevented Converse from getting across home plate, while the offense continued to push with a big inning in the seventh.

In its final turn at-bat, The W scored four runs. Martin singled to left field to push Kandler Flora across home, Duke singled to centerfield to bring Matthew and Lloyd home, and Brianna Duquette positioned a sacrifice fly to bring Martin home.
