COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls softball team will host William Carey University on Tuesday, March 20 in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Don Usher Softball Field. The W enters Tuesday's match 12-10 while the Crusaders are currently 14-4.
This will be the second time this season that the two teams have faced. The Owls traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss. earlier in the season to take on the nationally ranked Williams Carey. The W played hard but were unable to pull a win, falling 7-3 and 7-0 in the two game series.
With a .545 win, The W has played in 22 games for 139 runs (two homeruns). As a team, it has maintained a .314 batting average, a .390 on base percentage, and a .383 slugging percentage.
Anna Lloyd, junior outfielder, leads the Owls with a .372 batting average and 22 runs. The Batesville, Miss. native has played in a 22 games for 78 at-bats, 29 hits (one double), and five RBIs. She ranks second on the team with a .456 on base percentage and holds a .385 slugging percentage.
Other standout Owls are Katlyn Duke and Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson who lead the team with 20 RBIs each and Heidi Matthews who holds a .368 batting average while tallying 68 at-bats, 21 runs, 25 hits (four doubles), and 10 RBIs.
Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Don Usher Softball Field located on the campus of MUW.
