Softball Blanks Concordia, 14-0, 13-0

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls softball team blanks Concordia College – Alabama in a homecoming doubleheader on Saturday, March 24. The W defeated the Hornets 14-0 in the first game and followed with a 13-0 victory in the second.

Game One (W, 14-0)
Collecting her first victory of the season, sophomore pitcher Tiffany Phillips was credited took the win on the mound. The Greenville, Miss. native pitched 4.0 innings for seven strikeouts, two hits against, and one walk.

In the top of the fifth, junior pitcher Madison Scoggin closed out the game for the Owls. The Bay Springs, Miss. native threw nine pitches for a perfect three up, three down fifth inning to conclude the game.

At the plate, Katlyn Duke led her team with a 2-for-3 appearance for two RBIs and one run. Kristen Martin led the team in scoring with a 2-for-1 appearance with three runs and Heidi Matthews, Anna Kate O'Bryant, and Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson tied Duke for game high of two RBIs each.

The Owls devastated the Hornets recording 10 hits and one error with 14 runs while holding Concordia scoreless for two hits and five errors.

Game Two (13-0)

Junior left-hander Ciara Steward threw the Owls first no-hitter of the season for the win in the second game of the day. The Bruce, Miss. native pitched the entire 5-inning game for nine strikeouts, no runs, no hits, and no walks.

At the plate, junior infielder Bailee Watts led her team with a perfect 3-for-3 appearance to record seven RBIs and two runs, while Kandler Flora and Bailey Johnston led the team in scoring for three runs each.

In the outing, the Owls tallied nine hits and two errors for 13 runs while holding the Hornets scoreless and hitless with three errors.


The Owls softball team will be back on its home field on Monday, March 26 to host Talladega College. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
