No. 3 Owls Softball Heads to USCAA Small College World Series

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W softball team will travel to DuBois, Penn. to participate in the USCAA Small College World Series for the second consecutive year since the program was reestablished during the 2017-18 season.

The Owls (22-9) grab the No. 3 seed to take the No. 6 seeded Carlow University in the first round of the tournament on Monday, May 13 at 4 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. CT at Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field in DuBois City Park.

The W will look to the ace pitcher and Owls Female Athlete of the Year Madison Scoggin on the mound. The left-hander holds an 11-4 record with 94 innings pitched, 20 earned runs, and 1.48 earned run average. She will be backed up by senior pitcher Ciara Steward and freshmen Amelia Stalter and Donna Douglas.

The Owls bullpen is ranked first in the USCAA with a 1.99 ERA and in batting average allowed at .242.

Offensively the Owls are led by six seniors; Heidi Matthews, Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson, Kristen Martin, Bailee Watts, Kandler Flora, and Anna Lloyd, who are all hitting over a .320 batting average.

Carlow University (18-20) is carried this season by its pitching staff. Abby Stroud, a junior utility player, is a force on and off the mound. She is a returning USCAA All-American with a 1.39 ERA, a .188 batting average against, and a .337 batting average with eight doubles, 18 runs, and 11 RBIs.
