Four Softball Players Receive All-American Honors, Nine Named to All-Academic Team

DUBOIS, Penn. – The United Collegiate Athletic Association announced its All-American softball teams, major awards, and All-Academic team at the 2019 USCAA Small College World Series pre-tournament luncheon at the DuBois Country Club Sunday afternoon. The Owls saw four players receive All-American honors while nine players were named to the All-Academic team.

Madison Scoggin, a senior left-handed pitcher from Bay Springs, Ms., received first-team honors after a dynamic final season as a member of The W softball team. The Owls Female Athlete of the Year went 11-4, posting a 1.49 earned run average in 16 appearances with 15 starts. Over 94.1 innings pitched, she allowed opponents to hit just .232 against her and struck out 50 batters while allowing 82 hits. The W softball MVP was also named to the All-Academic team.

Receiving second-team honors, senior outfielder Kristen Martin led her team with a .393 batting average. In 31 games and 84 at-bats, the Hattiesburg, Ms. Native recorded 24 runs on 33 hits (one double and five triples) for 29 RBI, a .461 on-base percentage, and a .524 slugging percentage. She was also named to the All-Academic Team.

The W had two players receive third-team recognition. Seniors Heidi Matthews and Bailee Watts rounded out the Owls softball All-American Awards. During the 2019 season, Matthews maintained a .371 batting average, a .440 on-base percentage, and a .371 slugging percentage while Watts hit for .366 with a .495 on-base percentage, and a .463 slugging percentage.

Joining Scoggin and Martin on the All-Academic team with GPAs greater than 3.5 were Mackenzie Harris, Emily Littlejohn, Jana Kay Newell, Tiffany Phillips, Anna Kate O'Bryant, Ciara Steward, and Meredith Woolbright.

The honorees along with their teammates will play in their first game of the 2019 Small College World Series on Monday, May 13. The No.3 Owls will face off against No. 6 Carlow University at 4 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. CT at Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field in the DuBois City Park.
