Owls Split Day 2 at Millsaps Tournament

Jackson, MS – The W softball team split the games on the final day of the Millsaps Tournament. The Owls faced off against Austin College again, taking the win 8-1. For the last game of the Millsaps Tournament, the Owls took on LaGrange College losing 18-1.

Game One Against Austin College (W, 8-1)

Junior Kaitlyn Parrish started on the mound for the Owls again. Putting in 4 innings of work only allowing 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Junior Brooklyne Eubanks came in to relieve Parrish in the 5th inning to close the game.

The Owls bats came out swinging in the top of the first inning. With runners on base, junior Austyn Holden singled to right field, bringing in Newell for the first run of the game. With bases loaded junior Katie Williams hit a double off the fencing collecting two RBIs, to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.

The Kangaroos of Austin College added one run in the 4th inning to make it a 3-1 ball game. The W's offense added some insurance runs in the 6th inning to extend their lead, 8-1.

Game Two Against LaGrange College (L, 18-1)

Despite the Owls' best efforts, they were unable to stop LaGrange's offense.

The Owls offense could not get their bats going to retaliate against Panthers. The Owls avoided a shutout scoring freshman Lillian Ergle in the bottom of the 5th inning on a passed ball.

The Owls look to regroup and come out fighting this Tuesday at home, doubleheader starting at 2 pm against Centenary College.
