COLUMBUS, Miss. – With 16 points and 16 rebounds, junior forward Keyahna Jones had an explosive game to lead the Owls in their victory over Wesleyan College. The W dominated the Wolves 84-43 to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Jones, a native of Lufkin, Tex., went 8-for-17 from the field and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and four defensive boards. Tenazhia Hinkson and Rokila Wallace scored 13 points each and Qiayon Bailey rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12. MyNeka Frazier tied Jones with 16 rebounds for the game high.
As a team, the Owls shot 39.8 percent from the field, 6.3 percent in 3-point range, and 52.9 percent the free-throw line. The Wolves struggled with their accuracy to shoot 32.0 percent from the field, 27.8 in 3-point range, and 37.5 from the line.
"Today the Owls executed very well on the offensive end of the floor," said head coach Howard White. "We were able to dominate in the paint and in boards and we kept our turnovers to 12. We played together as a team and did the things we needed to do to win. Overall, I was very happy with our performance."
The Owls will return to court on Monday, Dec. 10 when they host Berry College at 6 p.m. Come out and support the Owls as they take on the Vikings.
