SELMA, Ala. – Junior guard Qiayon Bailey led The W in its 72-43 victory over Selma University on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The West Point, Miss. native went 9-for-12 from the field including 1-for-2 beyond the arc and picked up three baskets at the free-throw line to lead the Owls with 22 points in their final regular season game of the 2019 season.
The W dominate the Bulldogs offensively and put up a great defensive front for the 29-point decision Tuesday evening.
As a team, the Owls outrebounded Selma 66-60 but had more turnovers 18-12. The Bulldogs were able to grab seven points off of The Owls mistakes while The W tallied 16 off Selma's miscues.
In the paint, the Owls outscored Selma 34-16 and had a more productive bench, 13-5.
From the field, The W shot 41.4 percent including 17.6 percent in three-point range. The team also shot 52.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Selma hit 20.2 percent from the field with 9.4 percent from beyond the arc and made 28.6 percent of its free-throws.
"We played as a team tonight," said head coach Howard White. "We were focused on both ends of the floor. We did a great job attacking the paint and getting the shots we wanted. Defensively, we thought outside the box and really took them out of what they wanted to do offensively. Overall, we played our style of basketball.
The Owls will find out if they qualify for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Details will be released as soon as they become available.
