Women's Basketball Falls 83-74 in Game One of Sewanee Classic

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Briona Green scored 18 points and Autumn Taylor, MyNeka Frazier, and Qiayon Bailey scored 14 points each but it was not enough to defeat Johnson University on the first day of the Sewanee Basketball Classic. The W women's basketball team lost 84-74 to the Royals on Friday at Juhan Gymnasium. 

With her effort on Friday, Green recorded her career-high as an Owl, marking the first time she scored in the double-digits wearing The W uniform. The junior transfer went 6 of 17 from the field and 6 of 15 from beyond the arc to lead the Owls ins scoring. 

Johnson (2-3) took advantage of its shooting accuracy from the floor and at the line to stay ahead of the Owls. From the field, the Royals made 32 of 67 (47.8 percent) and 5 of 6 (83.3 percent) from the line. 

The W had several bright spots offensively. The Owls tied Johnson in boards with 38 each, competed better for second-chance points 17-9, and outperformed in the paint 40-24. From the floor, The W picked up  31 of 71 (43.7 percent) and 8 of 22 (36.4 percent) in three-point range. The Owls struggled at the line, scoring only 4 of 7 (57.1 percent).
