SEWANEE, TENN. - Qiayon Bailey scored 26 points and Autumn Taylor scored 12, but The W women's basketball team closed the Sewanee Basketball Classic with an 87-68 loss to Belhaven University Saturday afternoon in Juhan Gymnasium.
For Bailey, the 2019 USCAA All-American, it marked her second game of the four this season with 20-plus points. She also pulled down 10 boards for her second double-double of the season.
The W (0-4) also got eight points and 12 rebounds from MyNeka Frazier. Taylor tied Frazier for a game-high 12 boards to be the second Owl with a double-double on the night. The W won the rebounding battle 56-39, points in the paint 40-38, and second-chance points 13-10.
The Owls struggled at the free-throw line, making only 8 of 15 (53.3 percent) but saw better accuracy from beyond the arc with 6 for 11 (54.5 percent). From the field, The W went 27 for 66 (40.9 percent).
Belhaven (3-0) went 32 for 82 (39.0 percent) from the floor, 13 of 46 (28.3 percent) in three-point range, and 10 for 12 (83.3 percent) at the free-throw line.
The Owls will bring the game to Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium in their home opener game against Centenary College on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
