COLUMBUS, Miss. – Kyla Temple scored 16 points and Autumn Taylor had 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds but it was not enough to take down the Knights of Southern University at New Orleans Thursday night inside Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium.
Junior guard Briona Green added 14 points to the Owls offense to round out digit scoring while Taylor added four assists and four steals to the effort.
As a team, The W went 20-for-52 (38.5 percent) from the floor, including 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) in three-point range. SUNO scored 31 baskets off its 84 attempts (36.9 percent) including 10 of 32 (31.3 percent) from behind the arc. At the line, the Owls hit 7 of 10 shots while the Knights scored 10 of 13.
One of the Owls biggest struggles was turnovers. The W committed 24 turnovers to the Knights 16 and SUNO scored 27 points of the miscues while holding the Owls to eight. In the paint, the Knights outscored The W 34-26 and in second-chance points 20-13.
SUNO's offense was led by senior guard Netanya Wilkerson who scored a game-high 31 points. She was assisted by ShaQuanta Pettis who put up 18 points and tied fellow Knight Victoria Udechi with a game-high 12 rebounds. Udechi and Shadejha Brown lent 10 points each to SUNO's scoring effort to round out double-digit figures.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 14 when they travel to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary College – Louisiana. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
