Women's Basketball Defeats Judson on the Road, 70-54

MARION, Ala. –Senior forward My'Neka Frazier tallied her 12th double-double of the season to lead the -Owls women's basketball team in a 70-54 victory at Judson College on Thursday, Feb. 6. The McComb, Miss. native scored 27 points and brought down 14 rebounds in late-week action against fellow USCAA-institution. With the victory, the Owls improve to 6-15 on the season.  

Freshman forward Rachael McGrew added 13 points and senior guard Autumn Taylor contributed 12 points and 8 assists to round out double-digit scoring.

The Owls got off to a rough start inside of Riddle Gymnasium Thursday night. The W struggled to follow through with shots and fell behind the Eagles, 19-8, to end the first quarter.

The Owls found a new focus to start the second period. They went on an 11-0 run to open the quarter with freshman McGrew sinking a layup for the 10th and 11th points to tie the game, 19-19. The two teams traded points and tied the game at 26 with a 1:30 left in the half. Breaking the tie, Frazier went up for a rebound and a tip-in to give the Owls a 28-26 advantage. Senior guard Taylor went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to push The W to 30-26. Sakeria Hollis for the Eagles gave Judson its final two points of the half and McGrew for The W scored two at the line to close the half 32-28 with the Owls ahead.

The W opened up the second half with an 8-3 run and kept the momentum going throughout the final periods of the game. The Owls stayed ahead of the Eagles to close out the contest with the 70-54 victory.

The Owls will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 13 when they travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on Tougaloo College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
