CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Owls women's soccer team competed in a hard-fought battle against Delta State University in its first match of the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1. Despite how hard they played, The W was unable to come out with a win, losing the match 2-0.
Goalkeeper Sarah Gilliland spent the entire 90 minute match defending the Owls goal. The sophomore Brandon, Miss. native put up a great effort to record four saves but was unable to prevent two Statesmen goals.
"Thought the girls battled hard for 90 minutes and defended well. We had a hard time getting out of our defensive third but that will come with time," stated Head Coach Gray Massey. "Hopefully these past three games will continue to prepare us for the rest of the year."
The Owls will not let thier first loss get them down. They are already preparing for thier first official home game against East Texas Baptist University on Monday, Sept. 3. Kick-off against the Tigers is set for 1 p.m. Come out and support the Owls as they search for a home victory.
