COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Owls women's soccer team competed hard throughout its match against East Texas Baptist University on Monday, Sept. 3. Despite the effort, The W was unsuccessful, losing 2-0 during the Labor Day match-up.
Goalkeeper Sarah Gilliland spent the entire 90 minutes defending the goal for the Owls. The Brandon, MS native put up great efforts to record four saves but was unable to prevent 2 goals.
"We came out and competed today. We played a very good team ETBU who is top 4 in their respective conference," stated Head Coach Gray Massey."So, I thought losing 2-0 and having a chance to tie it at one point I'm pleased with the effort. Obviously, we want to win but I'm happy with the effort and energy that we have."
Five Owls struck shots today. Sarah Walden, Isaura Camacho, Caroline Grafe, Morgan Dennis, and Chelsey Walker all tallied a single shot during the competition. Morgan Dennis and Mary Catherine Hutchens were more accurate with their shots and were credited with a shot on goal each.
This is still the beginning of a great season for the Owls women's soccer team despite the loss. This match was another trial to push them as they prepare to travel to Montgomery, Ala. to compete against Huntingdon College on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The match is set for 6 p.m.
