COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women's soccer team demonstrated remarkable efforts in the match against LaGrange College on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Columbus Soccer Complex. In the last home game of the season, the Owls presented a victory against the Panthers, 7-1 improving its season record to 2-10-0.
The Owls gained a swift offensive advantage within 7:58 of the first half as junior midfielder Morgan Dennis found an opening and took the shot.
Leading the team with three goals this match, Sarah Walden, a junior from Pascagoula, MS. Walden was able to gain two of her goals with assists from Caroline Grafe and Dakota Stokes; which were both scored towards the end of the second half.
Dennis scored a second goal and Mackenzie Fennell and Sam Vogel also scored goals in the match-up to round out the Owls scoring.
Sarah Gilliland, sophomore keeper from Brandon, Miss., was credited with the Owls victory. Gilliland played the entire match and tallied one save with one goal allowed to keep the Owls in the game.
The Owls will travel to Jackson, Miss. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 to compete against Belhaven University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
