Columbus, Miss. - The Women's Soccer team is looking to build off a thrilling 6-0 win over Talladega College as it takes on the Wildcats on Thursday, September 4th at 5 p.m. The W (1-1) is hoping to use the momentum to grab its first home victory of the season against the 0-1-1 Louisiana College.
Offensively, the Owls are led by Morgan Dennis and Lizzie Truelock, who scored two goals each against the Tornadoes of Talladega. Dennis, a senior from Saltillo, Miss., has recorded three shots for a .667 shot on goal percentage. Truelock, a freshman from Caledonia, has recorded one assist and four shots on goal for a .500 shot on goal percentage.
In the goal, the Owls have relied on Sarah Gilliland (1-1) and Merrie Kate Grayson to hold down keeper duties. Gilliland, a junior from Brandon, has done the bulk of the heavy lifting with 135 minutes played for five saves and four goals allowed. Junior transfer Grayson made her debut as an Owl in the second half of the Talladega saga to record three saves and a complete shutout.
Louisiana College has remained scoreless throughout their first two outings so the Wildcats will look to get on the board. Caitlyn Scheibal and Rami Mitchell lead the team with shots on goal. Scheible, despite the tie, had a great game against Texas College for nine shots with four on goal while Mitchell tallied two shots. Against Austin, Mitchell stepped up to record three shots with one on goal.
Lexi Tate and Madison McDowell have each spent a complete game in front of the goal. Versus Texas, Tate played 110 minutes, including two overtime periods, for two saves and McDowell played for the full 90 minutes against Austin for three saves and one goal allowed.
After taking on Louisiana College, the Owls will be on the road for the weekend. Starting their road trip with Oakwood University on Friday and ending with Welch College on Saturday. For the latest on Owls Women's Soccer and the rest of the Owls Athletics, visit OwlsAthletics.com.
