COLUMBUS, Miss. – Seeded third nationally, the Owls women's soccer team will make its first appearance in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Division I Soccer Championship Tournament at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va.
The W will play in a five-modified FIFA-style pool play. The Owls landed in Pool B with the University of Maine – Fort Kent, the No. 2 seed. The two teams will play a two-game aggregate match-up and the winner will go on to play in the title game.
The Owls enter the tournament 10-6 with senior forward Morgan Dennis leading the offense with 23 points. The Saltillo, Miss. native has scored 11 goals, two game-winning, with one assist as The W's main offensive weapon. Aiding in the scoring effort, freshman Lizzie Truelock has scored seven goals this season with four assists for 18 points.
In the goal, Sarah Gilliland heads the Owls defense. The junior from Brandon, Miss. has played in 14 of The W's 16 games for a .753 save percentage.
