  • Volleyball Closes Season with Senior and Faculty/Staff Day

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women’s volleyball team honored senior Savannah Thomas and MUW Faculty and Staff during its final match of the 2018 season. In front of a home crowd, The W took on Lane College for the second time this year. In the first outing, the Owls defeated the Dragons 3-0 on the road but was unable to repeat the feat in Saturday’s match. The W fell 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 17-25) on Saturday, Nov. 3 to close the season 5-22.
  • Owls Go 0-2 in Day Two of Colorado Tour

    DENVER, Colo. – The Owls volleyball team went 0-2 in the second day of the Colorado tour. The W fell 0-3 (23-25, 18-25, 18-24) to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats and 0-3 (21-25, 14-25, 22-25) to the University of Dallas for a 4-21 overall record.
  • Owls Compete Against No. 3 Colorado College

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Owls volleyball team took on Colorado College in its first match of its Colorado Tour. The W was unable to get pass the Prowlers falling 3-0 (11-25, 11-25, 6-25) Friday evening in the Reid Area.
  • Volleyball Defeats Lane in Three-Set Decision

    JACKSON, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team defeated Lane College in a three set decision, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, on Monday, Oct. 23 in J.F. Lane Gymnasium. With the victory, The W improves to 4-19 on the season while the Dragons fall to 4-22.
  • Owls Knock Off Judson, 3-1

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – It was a big evening for The W women’s volleyball team as they recorded its first home victory of the 2018 season against USCAA-sister institution Judson College. The Owls defeated the Eagles in four sets (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-3) inside Pohl Gymnasium for its third W of the 2018 season. With the victory, the Owls improve to 3-19 on the season while Judson falls to 1-8.
  • Volleyball Hangs Tough with Rhodes

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team worked hard against NCAA DIII opponent Rhodes College on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The W battled back from point deficits and continued long rallies in an attempt to gain a victory over the Lynx. Even with the newfound energy, the Owls were unable to stay ahead of Rhodes falling in three sets (16-25, 16-25, 21-25).
  • Owls Drop Doubleheader Matches at Centenary

    SHREVEPORT, La. – Playing in its first road matches in two weeks, The W volleyball team dropped back-to-back matches at Centenary College in two 3-0 decision on Sunday, Oct. 6.
  • Volleyball Drops Military Appreciation Match Versus Belhaven

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team started off strong during its Military Appreciation Game against in-state foe Belhaven University. The W battled for every point in the first set to force a scoring war but it was not enough to keep the Owls on top. After a 27-25 loss in the first set, The W was struggled to keep the momentum going, closing the match under the Blazers in three; 25-27, 10-25, 14-25.
  • Volleyball Falls in Three Against Sewanee

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team hosted Sewanee: The University of the South on Friday, Sept. 28 in its second home game of the season. The W mounted a great defense and limited unforced errors to play a great game against the Tigers. Despite the effort, the Owls were unable to defeat Sewanee, falling in three sets (12-25, 19-25, 13-25)
  • Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Huntingdon in Home Opener

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team hosted Huntingdon College on Thursday, Sept. 27 in its 2018 home opener. The W started the match strong but was unable to finish, falling 3-0 (24-26, 22-25, 9-25) to the Hawks.
  • Volleyball Outlasts Judson for 3-2 Victory

    MARION, Ala. – The Owls volleyball team played its best match of the 2018 season at Judson College on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The W pushed back when down to defeat the Eagles in the first five set match of the season, 3-2.
  • Volleyball Stalls at Tougaloo, 0-3

    TOUGALOO, Miss. – Mid-season fatigue is beginning to settle into the Owls volleyball team. The W did well statistically during the University of Dallas Volleyball Tournament but struggled during a Tuesday match against Tougaloo College. The Owls were unable to get their game going and fell 0-3 (2-25, 9-25, 13-25) to the Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
  • Volleyball Closes UD Tournament 1-2

    DALLAS, Tex. – The Owls volleyball team moves to 1-12 on the season after Saturday’s loss to Randall University. The W took on the Saints in the last match of the University of Dallas Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Owls played well offensive but created points for their opponent through errors to take the loss in four sets; 22-25, 24-26, 25-16, 17-25.
  • Volleyball Splits Day One of Dallas Tournament

    DALLAS, Tex. – The Owls volleyball split day one of the University of Dallas Volleyball Tournament. The W gained its first win of the season by defeated Southwestern Adventist University, 3-0. In the Owls second match of the day, they played well but struggled to score points, falling 0-3 to the University of Dallas.
  • Volleyball Unable to Best Sewannee

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – On Thursday, Sept. 12, The W volleyball team (0-10) faced off against Sewanee: The University of the South (9-1), a promising team currently ranked second in the Southern Athletic Conference. After playing against Covenant College Wednesday, the Owls adjusted their game plan in hopes to best their out-of-state foe. The W, still laying the ground work for the season, was unsuccessful in its attempt, dropping the match in three sets; 5-25, 13-25, 18-25.
  • Volleyball Comes Up Empty at Covenant, 0-3

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team took the road to Covenant College for a midweek match-up on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The W put up a major effort but could not get pass the Scots falling 3-0 (18-25, 9-25, 19-25).
  • Volleyball Sees Improvement in Day Two of Huntingdon Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team saw improvements physically and statistically but it was not enough to pick up a victory at the Huntingdon Volleyball Tournament. In day two, the Owls competed against Tuskegee University and North Carolina Wesleyan University to come up empty in both matches. The W fell 0-3 to Tuskegee and 0-3 to NCW.
  • McMurphey Leads Owls Offensively in Day One of Huntingdon Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women's volleyball team took on Huntingdon College and Agnes Scott College in the first day of the Huntingdon College Volleyball Tournament. The W offense demanded attention but was unable to bring home a victory on Friday, Sept. 7.
  • Volleyball Heads to Huntingdon for Weekend Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team will return to action this weekend when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to participate in the 2018 Huntingdon Volleyball Tournament. Beginning on Friday, Sept. 7 – Saturday, Sept. 8, the Owls will face Huntingdon College, Agnes Scott College, Tuskegee University, and North Carolina Wesleyan College.
  • Volleyball Delivers First Set Victory of the Season at Belhaven Tourney

    JACKSON, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team returned to Heidelberg Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept.1 for day two of the Belhaven Volleyball Tournament. The W showed great determination and hustled through two matches to pick up its first set win of the 2018 season. The Owls showed great determination but were unable to convert the effort in to match wins, falling 3-0 to Belhaven in match one of the day and 3-1 to Central Baptist College in match two.
  • Volleyball Fights Hard in Day One of Belhaven Tournament

    JACKSON, Miss. – The W volleyball team opened the 2018 season at the Belhaven Volleyball Tournament on Friday, Aug. 31. The Owls are a much improved team from there 2017 outing and it showed through every set and every match. During its first official day on the court, the team fought hard and push for every point against the host team Belhaven University and fellow participant Central Baptist University. Despite the effort, the Owls were unable to pull a win and dropped both matches 0-3.
  • Volleyball Season Begins at Belhaven Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team will spend the 2018 opening weekend in Jackson, Miss. at the Belhaven University Volleyball Tournament. The two-day tournament will begin on Friday, August 31 and will feature matches between the host Belhaven, Central Baptist University, and your MUW Owls.
  • Volleyball Tested at UWA Exhibition Tournament

    LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Owls volleyball team stretched it legs at the University of West Alabama Exhibition Tournament on Saturday August, 25. The W participated in three scrimmage matches against host school UWA, DII opponent Tuskegee University, and DIII opponent Birmingham Southern to get a feel of its abilities before to the start of the upcoming season.v
  • Volleyball Kick-starts 2018 Season With Exhibition Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – Owls volleyball is back and will get a feel for the 2018 season at the University of West Alabama Exhibition tournament. The W will face-off against three opponents, UWA, Birmingham Southern, and Tuskegee, on Saturday, August 25.
  • 2018 Owls Volleyball Outlook

    The Mississippi University for Women Owls volleyball team is looking forward to taking the court for the 2018 season. The Owls concluded the 2018 comeback season 5-22 after the original program ended in 2002 after a tornado hit the campus. Coach Roxanne Hernandez enters her second season as the Owls head coach and is excited to return 10 players from last year’s squad.
  • Owls Volleyball Conducts Summer Clinics and Team Camps

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball staff had a very busy 2018 summer. In the month of July, the Owls held skills clinics for athletes looking to improve their volleyball game and several camp clinics for high school teams in Alabama and Mississippi.
