  • Owls Rank 15th in Final 2020 USCAA Director's Cup Standings

    NORFOLK, Va. – With four Owls teams making their first appearance in the USCAA Fall Championships and both basketball team receiving top 20 rankings in the final USCAA Coaches Poll, The W Athletics was ranked 15th in the final standing for the 2019-20 USCAA Director’s Cup.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – Director of Athletics Jason Trufant and the Owls athletic program would like to take the time to recognize the 111 student-athletes who received a GPA of 3.0 or better during the fall 2019 semester. Because of their academic efforts, the scholars have been named to the Fall 2019 Athletic Director's List. Among those student-athletes recognized, 38 Owls hold at least a 3.5 GPA and 20 finished with a 4.0.  
  • Owls Athletics Ranks 9th in USCAA Directors Cup Standings

    NORFOLK, Va. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has revealed the first round of 2019-2020 Director Cup standings. The standings consist of results from the 2019 USCAA Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, and Cross Country National Championships in addition to points for 2019 National Convention attendance and sports offering.
  • Volleyball Closes Season with Best Record Since Athletics Reboot

    CONWAY, Ark. – The Owls volleyball team concluded the 2019 season at the Central Baptist Tri-Match on Saturday, Oct. 26. In its final appearance of the year, The W split the day with a 3-1 victory over Ozark Christian College and a 3-0 loss to Central Baptist College.
  • Volleyball Raises $550 for the Baptist Cancer Foundation in Annual Dig Pink Game

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team hosted Huntingdon College in its second annual Dig Pink Game on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Emma ‘Ody’ Pohl Gymnasium. Through admissions, raffles, and donations The W raised $550 for the Baptist Cancer Foundation. The proceeds will help patients with expenses related to treatment such as transportation, prescriptions, and co-pays.
  • Volleyball Pushes Lane to Five Set Match

    JACKSON, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team played with heart and battled back after finding itself in tight places to force their NCAA Division II opponent Lane College into five sets. Despite the effort, The W was unable to outlast the Lady Dragons to fall 3-2 (15,25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 8-15) Tuesday night in the J.F. Lane Building located on the campus of Lane College.
  • Volleyball Falls 3-1 at Johnson University

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team fell 3-1 at Johnson University – Tennessee. The W played hard against the Royals but were unsuccessful in winning rallies in the loss.
  • Volleyball Took on the Sewanee Tigers for Senior Night

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team took on The University of the South in Thursday’s Senior Night as the last home game of the 2019 season. The W did their best to keep the ball of the game, entering rally after rally against the Sewanee Tigers but it was not enough for a victory. The Owls fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) to fall to 5-16 on the season.
  • Weir Leads Owls Offense in 3-0 Loss Versus Huntingdon

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team was able to rally back after being in tight spots but it did not allow them to secure a victory over Huntingdon College Tuesday nights. The Hawks subdued the Owls 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) during The W’s annual Dig Pink Night.
  • Volleyball Goes 2-2 at Wallace State Tournament, Evans and Canada Named to All-Tournament Team

    HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Owls volleyball team goes 2-2 at the Wallace State Community College Exhibition tournament. In the two-day event, The W saw victories against Cleveland State Community College and Chattanooga State Community College while falling to Wallace State Community College – Selma and Walters State Community College.
  • Women's Soccer Ranked Third, Volleyball Ranked Ninth in USCAA Coaches Poll

    NORFOLK, Va. - The Owls women's soccer team moved to the third spot and the volleyball team moved up to a ninth-place ranking in the third week the USCAA Coaches Poll. The W men's soccer team is still ranked 10th. 
  • Volleyball Hangs Tough with MC

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – For the first two sets, the Owls volleyball team kept pace with its NCAA Division II opponent Mississippi College on Tuesday evening. The W struggled in the third set and was unable to get back in the game for a 3-0 loss to the Lady Choctaws.
  • Lamon Records a Double-Double in 3-1 Loss at Martin Methodist

    PULASKI, Tenn. – After a decisive first set, the Owls volleyball team rallied together to comeback against Martin Methodist College in set two to remain in the game. The W put up a strong defensive effort with 69 digs and 10 block assists but it was not enough to defeat the Redhawks. The Owls fell 3-1 Friday evening in the Richard Curry Christian Life Center.
  • Owls Fall Sports Ranked Top-Ten in USCAA

    NORFOLK, Va. - Owls fall sports dominate the top ten in the USCAA Coaches Poll for the second week in a row. The W women's soccer team is tied for fourth among Division I competitors and the men's team is ranked ninth. With a 5-13 record, the Owls volleyball team is ranked tenth. All three teams will hold home games this week. Come out and support the Owls as the fight to climb to the top. 
  • Volleyball Dominates Judson, 3-0

    MARION, Ala. – Senior outside hitter Haley McMuphey recorded a match-high 11 kills in the Owls 3-0 victory over Judson College. The W defeated the Eagles in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-14 to improve to 5-12 on the season.
  • Volleyball Takes on Bevill in Exhibition Play

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team took on Bevill State Community College in midseason exhibition play on Friday, Sept. 27. The W proved they have come a long way since the start of the season to defeat the Bears in 3 sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-23).
  • Three Owls Teams Ranked Top-10 in USCAA
    September 25, 2019
    NORFOLK, Va. – The USCAA released the first coaches poll of the 2019-20 season and three Owls programs were named among the top ten. The women’s soccer team who is currently 6-5 overall with wins over Louisiana College and Millsaps College is ranked third among USCAA Division I teams. The Owls volleyball team who is off to one of its best starts since the return of the program in 2017 holds a 4-12 record to be ranked seventh and the men’s soccer team holds a 2-4-3 record to be ranked ninth. 
  • Volleyball Played Close Five Set Match Against Belhaven

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls gave the Blazers all they could take in a five-set match on Tuesday night in Pohl Gymnasium. The W volleyball team (4-12) did not go down easily in the 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 11-15) loss to Belhaven University (6-7).

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Owls volleyball team takes one and drops one at the Huntingdon College Tri-Match on Saturday, Sept. 21. The W moves to 4-11 on the season after the weekend matchups.

  • Volleyball Falls Short in 3-1 Loss to CBC

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – For the first time since opening weekend, the Owls volleyball team returned home to take on Central Baptist College on Tuesday afternoon. A lagging offense and unforced errors kept The W down against the Mustangs and the Owls were unable to finish on top. The W falls to 3-9 (25-17, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18) on the season after the 3-1 loss to CBC.
  • Volleyball Comes Up Blank on Day Two of Sewanee Tournament, Weir Named to All-Tournament Team

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – The W volleyball team (3-8) did not get the finish it wanted in the 2019 Sewanee Volleyball Invitational. After an amazing day one, defeating Agnes Scott College 3-0, the Owls were unable to repeat their performance on day two with losses to Sewanee: The University of the South (7-8) and LaGrange College.
  • Volleyball Defeats Agnes Scott in Three

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team improves to 3-6 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Agnes Scott College in the opening game of the Sewanee Volleyball Invitational. The W gave an excellent performance to take down the Scotties 25-15, 25-15, 25-12.
  • Volleyball To Participate in Sewanee Invitational

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Owl women’s volleyball team will travel to Sewanee, Tenn. on Friday, Sept. 13 to participate in the Sewanee: The University of the South 2019 Volleyball Tournament. The W enters the three-match competition 2-6 and hopes to see some improvement this weekend.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team played hard against the Lynx of Rhodes College on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The W forced rally after rally to stay in the game but was unable to keep a lead to fall 3-0 in midweek action.

    JACKSON, Miss. – The Owls played hard on the final day of the Belhaven/Millsaps Invitational but was unable to pull a win, falling 3-2 to Philander Smith College and 3-0 to Belhaven College on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Heidelberg Gymnasium.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W volleyball team will make the 150-mile journey southwest this weekend to compete in the Belhaven/Millsaps Invitational, where the Owls will face Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Philander Smith College, and host institution Belhaven University.
