COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team took on The University of the South in Thursday's Senior Night as the last home game of the 2019 season. The W did their best to keep the ball of the game, entering rally after rally against the Sewanee Tigers but it was not enough for a victory. The Owls fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) to fall to 5-16 on the season.
Junior middle blocker Tori Weir led the Owls offense. The Columbus, Miss. native recorded 14 total attacks for six kills and one block assist for a .429 kill percentage.
As a setter, junior Madison Lamon recorded a team game-high eight assists with four digs, three total attacks, and two kills.
Defensively, the Owls were led by junior libero Sadie Mitchell who recorded 11 digs.
"We hung in there tonight and competed all the way through," stated assistant coach Brooke Carter. "We are continuing to work hard to win the long rallies. I hope the remain positive and continue to work hard as it will play off in the end."
During the Owls 2019 Senior Night, The W honored Cicely Goldhorn, Haley McMurphey, Courtney Poole, Mary Grace Prine, Mikaela Hodges, and senior manager Rachel Rooney as they suited up for their last home game as Owls.
The Owls 2019 season is not over. The W will be back on the court when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on Johnson University on Saturday, Oct. 19.
