Owls Cross Country Sees Personal Records at JSU Foothills

Saturday, Sept. 29, the Owls men's and women's cross country team competed at the JSU Foothills Invitational. The men's team finished 20th while the women's team finished 18th out of 19.

"We had many PR's, and even those that didn't get PR's ran strong," said head coach Morgan Turnipseed.

The women's team had a victory over Miles College.  Tiffany Phillips led the women's team, and she set a new 5k personal record with a time of 26:27.  Three more of the women's cross country team members also set personal records this week.

"Our men's team ran focused and competed well," Coach Turnipseed said.  The men competed in a 7k in this meet.  Jabari Williams had an 8:03 pace per mile, which beat his last two meets by thirty seconds.

"This meet propelled us forward for the October meets and I have high hopes that the team will work hard to achieve the end of their season goal," Coach Turnipseed said reflecting on the meet.

The Owls cross country teams will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Clinton, Miss. to participate in the Mississippi College Watson Ford Invitational. The men's team will compete in an 8k and the women's team will run a 6k.
